Definition of Mutual Generation and Restraining

Mutual Generation-Mutual development, promotion and encouragement. For instance: wood generates fire; fire generates earth; earth generates metal; metal generates water; water and wood.

Mutual Restraining: Mutual restriction, restraining and overcoming. For instance: wood restrains earth; earth restrains water; water restrains fire; fire restrains metal; metal and wood.

Mutual generation and restraining are inseparable: development can’t be realized without generation; even Sun Wukong is generated with the help of a stone; without restraining, people will not be restricted, leading to the overgrowth infinitely. Therefore, mutual generation and restraining shall be balanced, for the normal growth of all things on earth and the health and smoothness of men’s physical bodies.
